To maintain my membership and certifications in good standing, I diligently pass the FULL Inspector Exam every three years, adhere to a comprehensive Residential Standards of Practice, follow a strict Code of Ethics, and complete 24 hours of accredited Continuing Education courses each year. Why are licenses required in Alberta?
The legislation was brought into effect to protect consumers and reduce their risk. For most people, a home is the largest investment they will ever make. They can’t leave important information that impacts their buying decision up to a fly-by-night guy with a clipboard and crayons. Sadly, too many home buyers got burned by low quality inspections, so the Alberta Government enacted the Home Inspection Business Regulation in 2011 making all home inspectors to meet minimum education and registration standards for both the inspector and the businesses operating as home inspection companies.
Today, consumers in Alberta get more peace of mind knowing any inspector they hire will meet a minimum level of competency.

Within the School of InterNACHI, Alberta holds a chapter membership for all those who work in the province of Alberta. Alberta and B.C. are the only two provinces in Canada that are regulated by their respective Governments holding ALL Home Inspectors in Alberta with government mandates and regulations when operating as an inspector. This means, higher regulations, higher expectations and ultimately... better qualified home inspectors!
